Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQ) About iPrompts®
This page contains answers to
some frequently asked questions about iPrompts®.
Many questions related to specific iPrompts® features
are also answered by the "How To" guides
in our tutorials section.
Q: What is iPrompts®?
A: iPrompts® is a software application for the iPhone,
iPod Touch and iPad. It is designed for caregivers of
those with special needs. iPrompts® allows parents,
therapists, and special educators to configure and present
picture-based prompts (no audio prompts or voice output)
to help language and behaviorally challenged individuals
stay on task, transition between activities, and communicate
their needs.
Q: On which platforms does iPrompts® run?
A: Currently, iPrompts® runs on Apple's iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices. The original version, iPrompts®, is designed for use on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and can also be run on the iPad in compatibility mode (i.e., the small screen is magnified to fit the iPad, resulting in fuzzier pictures and text). iPrompts for iPad is a custom-designed iPad version with graphics that take full advantage of the iPad's larger screen size.
Q: Will iPrompts® allow me
to use any pictures I'd like?
A: Yes. In addition to our "starter" library of hundreds of stock illustrations and photographs, all users can customize iPrompts® with personal digital pictures. Using your device's built-in camera (requires an iPhone, or a newer model of the iPod Touch or iPad), you can even snap images of your current environment and add them directly into iPrompts®. And, as of version 1.2, all iPrompts® users can search for Web images from directly within the app. With iPrompts®, it's easy to incorporate almost any image you can imagine within a picture prompt!
Q: How do I add pictures to iPrompts® from my device's camera?
A: You may add camera pictures directly into a Schedule, directly into a Choice set, or into the Library. To add a new picture to a schedule, select the schedule, tap "Edit" in the upper-right, and then tap "Add Pic using Camera" in the lower-right. The same process applies for the Choices feature. Pictures can also be added to the Library; just select your category, and then tap "Add Pic" in the upper-right.
Q: How do I add digital pictures to iPrompts® from my
personal computer?
A: Detailed instructions for this feature are available by downloading our "How to Import Web Pics using iPrompts" guide. Tap the "Library" tab, and then use the "Search" bar at the top of the screen. Underneath the "Search" bar, tap the "Web" button, and then key in your search. In this manner, you can find just about any type of picture you can think of, and add it directly into iPrompts®! Once you find a Web picture you like, tap on it, and after providing a caption, press "Save". The image will be saved to your "my photos" category, and may then be used within any picture prompt you'd like.
Q: How do I add pictures from the Internet directly
into iPrompts®?
A: Detailed
instructions for this feature are available by downloading
our "How
to Import Web Pics using iPrompts" guide.
Tap the "Library" tab,
and then use the "Search" bar at the top of
the screen to search both the Library and the Web. In
this manner, you can find just about any type of picture
you can think of, and add it directly into iPrompts®!
Once you find a Web picture you like, tap on it, and
after providing a caption, press "Save". The
image will be saved to your "my photos" category,
and may then be used within any picture prompt you'd
like. You may also turn Web searching "OFF",
which might come in handy if you don't have a stable
Internet connection. Close iPrompts,
select your device's main "Settings" icon, then scroll down and
select "iPrompts". The feature may be turned
off by moving the slider to the "OFF" position.
Q: How do I get iPrompts®? How much does it cost?
A: iPrompts® is available for $49.99
on Apple's iTunes Store. Visit our HOW
TO ORDER page
to learn more.
The software is purchased directly
from your personal computer, iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad — no
need to visit a retail store. To purchase iPrompts® using
your device, select the "App
Store" icon and search for "iPrompts".
The app can be downloaded wirelessly to your device,
and billed to your iTunes account.
You can also purchase iPrompts® from your personal computer, and transfer the software
to your compatible Apple device (by "syncing" the device to iTunes). First,
you'll need to install iTunes, which is a free
download from Apple. After installing the program, search for "iPrompts" within
iTunes, or click
here to access the iPrompts® purchase
page on iTunes.
Q: I don't have an iPhone, iPod
Touch or iPad.
How do I get one? How much do they cost?
A: Apple sells the iPod Touch ($199 and up), the iPhone ($99 and up, not including monthly service charges), and the iPad ($499 and up, not including optional service charges) directly from their website. 8GB models are sufficient to run most applications, including iPrompts®.
The iPhone can also be purchased from a variety of online and traditional retail outlets (including Wal-Mart). The price of the iPhone and its service charges depend on the model and contract selected. The iPhone's on-board digital camera allows users to capture images and add them to iPrompts® at any time – this is quite a handy feature for meeting the demands of life "on the go" as a member of the special needs community.
The iPod Touch is also carried by many online and physical retailers. It allows users to store photos, play music, browse the Internet, access email, and download apps. The iPod Touch does not currently allow users to place phone calls. Newer iPod Touch models include a built-in camera.
The iPad has a larger screen size than the iPhone or iPod Touch. Newer models include a built-in camera.
Apple's website also offers $50 iTunes Gift Cards that may subsequently be used to download iPrompts®.
Q: Does iPrompts® contain "voice output" or
audio prompts?
A: Not as of yet.
Q: Are there plans to incorporate voice output functionality
within iPrompts®?
A: HandHold
Adaptive's product roadmap includes audio and video reinforcement
prompts to accompany the caregiver-commanded picture
prompts used within iPrompts®. We're also planning

supporting the special needs population. Contact
