FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This page contains answers to some frequently asked questions about iPrompts®. Many questions can also be answered by viewing the iPrompts® Video Tutorial found on this site and on YouTube.

Q: What is iPrompts®?

A: iPrompts is a software application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It is designed for caregivers of those with special needs. iPrompts® allows parents, therapists, and special educators to configure and present picture-based prompts (no audio prompts or voice output) to help language and behaviorally challenged individuals stay on task, transition between activities, and communicate their needs.

Q: Will iPrompts allow me to use any pictures I'd like?

A: Yes. In addition to a library of hundreds of stock illustrations and photographs, both iPhone and iPod Touch users can customize iPrompts® with personal images. Using the iPhone's camera, iPhone users can even add images of their current environment directly into iPrompts®.

Q: How do I add images to iPrompts® from my iPhone's camera?

A: There are several different ways to do this, a few of which are explained in detail by our Video Tutorial.  You can first take pictures outisde of iPrompts® and subsequently add them to your iPrompts® Library.  You can also access the iPrompts® Library and then add pictures "on the fly" within a selected category.  Pictures can also be added directly into any Picture Schedule.

Q: How do I add images to iPrompts® from my personal computer?

A: You must first transfer your images to the iPod or iPhone's Photo Library using iTunes. This is normally done by connecting the device to your computer, opening iTunes, selecting your device within iTunes, and following the iTunes instructions for transferring photos (either by "syncing" your device to a folder containing your pictures, or by transferring individual photos).

After you have loaded images onto your device, open iPrompts®. Select the "Library" tab in the bottom-right corner, and choose your category. Once within the category, tap the "Add Pics" button in the upper-right corner. After selecting "Add Pics from Photo Library," you can choose pictures from your device's main library to add to the iPrompts® library.

Q: How do I get iPrompts®? How much does it cost?

A: iPrompts® is available for $49.99 on Apple's iTunes Store. The software is purchased directly from your personal computer, iPhone or iPod Touch -- no need to visit a retail store.

To purchase iPrompts® using your iPhone or iPod Touch, select the "App Store" icon and search for "iPrompts". The app can be downloaded wirelessly to your device, and billed to your iTunes account.

You can also purchase iPrompts® from your personal computer, and transfer the software to an iPhone or iPod Touch (by "syncing" the device to iTunes). First, you'll need to install iTunes, which is a free download from Apple. After installing the program, search for "iPrompts" within iTunes, or click here to access the iPrompts purchase page.

Q: I don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch. How do I get one? How much do they cost?

A: Apple sells both the iPod Touch ($199) and various iPhone models ($99 and up, not including monthly service charges) directly from their website.

The iPhone can also be purchased from a variety of other online and traditional retail outlets (including Wal-Mart). Most stores sell the 8GB iPhone 3G model for $99 with a two-year service plan, which commonly includes unlimited Internet access, 450 anytime phone minutes and 5,000 night/weekend minutes for $69/month. The iPhone 3G packs quite a punch in terms of functionality, serving as a cellular phone, mobile internet browser, portable music player, personal organizer, GPS device, and digital camera, among other things (view Apple's "Guided Video Tour" for the iPhone). The iPhone 3GS is faster and more expensive (the 16 GB model starts at $199). iPhones are more expensive to purchase for existing AT&T contract holders that are not eligible for upgrades.

The iPhone's on-board digital camera allows users to capture images and add them to iPrompts® at any time -- this is quite a handy feature for meeting the demands of life "on the go" as a member of the special needs community.

The iPod Touch is carried by many online and physical retailers. The 8GB model currently sells for as low as $180 ($199 from Apple), and allows users to store photos, play music, browse the Internet, access email, and download apps. The iPod Touch does not currently allow users to place phone calls or take digital pictures.

First-time users on a budget might consider purchasing a pre-owned iPhone or iPod Touch from eBay.

Apple’s website also offers $50 iTunes Gift Cards that may subsequently be used to download iPrompts®.

Q: Does iPrompts® contain "voice output" or audio prompts?

A: Not as of yet.
